Review: Threadsy (Now with invites!)
Lately I’ve been getting annoyed with my email clients. For one reason or another, none seem to perfectly fit the bill. Even Gmail has it’s issues. So when I ran across Threadsy I was interested. Billed as a way to “pull yourself together,” Threadsy aggregates all of your email accounts plus Facebook and Twitter in one place.
I absolutely LOVE this idea. I have two active email accounts that I like to access from the same place. And it would be nice to have one less app running in the background (although, Beak, I love you). So here are the things I dig about Threadsy:
- The clean interface. It is an impressive feat to take that much information and make it feel organized.
- Nice graphics – I am a sucker for orange and grey.
- Simple concept. Email plus Facebook plus Twitter. Depends on who you are, but those are my three main ways of communicating.
- Multiple email accounts. The interface allows for you to filter each address or view all incoming messages at once.
- Integration with Twitter messages and Facebook messages. Twitter @ msgs and DMs show up in your main panel with email messages, and even allow you to respond from that same panel. This is surprisingly intuitive.
- Intuitive user experience. It’s not like any other email program I’ve used, but big buttons and judicious use of rollovers make it easy to figure out quickly where to click.
- One of my favorite things is how images and videos are embedded in their tweets or FB updates. If someone posts a twitpic, the image shows up natively in the tweet. A video from a FB friend? You can click play right in the update window.
Threadsy is still in beta, which means they’re still working out the kinks. So keep that in mind and don’t judge it too harshly just yet. But in any case, here are the things that gave me pause:
- No CC: or BCC: for emails. You may not necessarily need CC or BCC every day, but when you do, you do.
- No undo send. If you’re coming from Gmail, you may be used to having a few seconds after sending an email where you can cancel it. At least I do. Threadsy has no way to do that at the moment.
- No folders or filters for email. Not sure how they could integrate this considering that messages from your social media show up in your “inbox,” but folders are a big deal to me.
All in all, I wind up wishing that Thunderbird integrated Twitter and Facebook in the way that Threadsy does. That would be my fantasy email program. In the meantime, try Threadsy yourself with a beta invites.
